Queen's Baton Relay - Jordan Mansfield

Queen's Baton Relay

It is tradition that before the start of any Commonwealth Games, a Baton travels through the 71 nations and territories that make up the Commonwealth.

Ahead of this years Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, I was fortunate enough to be asked to photograph the Queen's Baton Relay journey through 26 of it's 71 countries - a trip spanning 4 months in total (and over 100 flights!)

The relay started it's journey this time round in Delhi, India - the home of the previous Commonwealth Games.

After travelling through the Commonwealth nations of Asia, I picked up the Relay in Australia, to follow it's time in the South Pacific, taking in Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Nauru, Tuvalu, Samoa, New Zealand, Kiribati, the Cook Islands, Tonga, Niue, Norfolk Island and Vanuatu.

After returning home for 3 weeks as the Baton travelled through Africa, I rejoined back up with it in Cape Town to see it through the Caribbean for another 34 days.

One of the highlights of the trip was travelling with the Baton to the small island of Saint Helena. Situated deep in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and with no airport, this little island is only accessible by a 5 day boat journey on the last of the Royal Mail Ships - the RMS Saint Helena.

From there, I travelled with the Baton Relay through Ascension Island, the Falkland Islands, Guyana, Barbados, Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago, St Vincent and the Grenadines, St Lucia and Grenada.
